Dear Guate friends and families,
Yesterday the group had the opportunity to participate in a permaculture workshop with their instructor, Erick, who runs an educational food sovereignty project in Guatemala called REISA (Intercultural Network of Schools for Food Sovereignty). Along with some of Erick’s friends and colleagues from the community, the students had the chance to learn about the entire cycle of organic food production, from preparing the land to planting seeds and harvesting tomatoes. The group will continue to engage with themes of Mesoamerican farming during their upcoming expedition in San Lucas Tolimán, another Mayan community on the shores of Lake Atitlán.
