Because it has helped me realize that nature isn’t something to be seen out of a car window, something to be photographed once and never thought of again beyond the superficial. Nature, earth, is something to be felt, heard, smelled, seen. it is something to be immersed in, to feel running through your own self as it does through the world around you. trekking has helped me realize that nature is not beautiful because it is idyllic. it is beautiful because it is rough, unrelenting, entirely real, as life is. and yes, peaceful, because everything flows unavoidably into the next. there are no real borders, no straight lines, no endings and no beginnings.
all this to say, trekking is important because it is real….
