Trek View on Nepal: Himalayan Studies Gap Year Semester with Where There Be Dragons

Hey everyone! My name is Maria Rendon, I’m 18 and I’m from Colombia.

As the program approaches, I’m excited to start getting to know all of you and for you to start getting to know me, so here is a little bit about me.

I chose this Dragons program for many reasons. When I was 15, I went to India with an organization called Putney Student Travels and did a community service program there that lasted a month. I absolutely adored the experience. I’ve actually always been drawn to this region of Nepal and India. In fact, I enrolled for a program in Nepal with Putney at first, but the earthquake happened a few short months before our trip and they offered us one in India in exchange. I ended up loving India more than any other place I’ve ever visited, but I still harbored a certain curiosity for Nepal. I also had a strong desire to keep having experiences like the one I had in India. So, when I heard about Dragons through a friend of mine and saw this program, I thought it was perfect for me.

This program offers three components I love. I love helping others and this program includes a great deal of community service, but it also involves other passions of mine, which include athletic activities and Buddhism.

I like to do track and field and yoga. I have always been interested in Buddhism, have done meditation several times, but I would like to dig deeper into all of it. I also really enjoy writing and being outdoors. Finally, I’m going on this program before going off to university in the fall to study psychology.

I’m excited about everything I’ll get to experience and everyone I’ll get to meet. I’m also looking forward to getting to know all of you, bond through a very unique experience and hopefully form many long-lasting friendships.

See you soon!
