Beijing and Kunming

Hello friends and family! We are sitting in the program house in Kunming writing after yet another delicious lunch. We arrived to the big city on Wednesday and have loved our time here so far. Before entering Yunnan, we spent an amazing few days in both Beijing and Gubeikou, a small community just off the Great Wall. We enjoyed our time dancing at night with the locals, eating incredible dishes that our Aiyi made, and hiking.

Now in Kunming, we just finished the second day of language classes, have connected with our homestays, and enjoyed even more amazing meals; we have renamed ourselves “China Food Tour Group B.” Both of our homestay families are super nice and welcoming, and we are looking forward to this upcoming weekend of more immersive language experiences!

In short, we have bonded extremely well with each other. Spencer has a found a new appreciation for Chinese chicken wings, Jake’s homestay dreams have come true as he has found two guitars, Eli has navigated his hour long commute to school extremely well, Nichos has scouted new words from the local dialect for the group, Daniel has experienced Chinese hot pot with his host brother’s friends and has tried his best to stay updated on the World Cup, Ryann has explored Kunming’s famous park and large lake, and Lillian has loved participating in the local tai chi and community dancing.

Look out for more updates; we will be rotating authors!

Singing off,

Lillian and Ryann
