It is an honor to be writing on this Yak Board again and to realize that our summer adventure is just around the corner! My full name is Juan Salvador Galich, but those who know me call me ‘Juancho’ so pleas feel free to do so.
I’m Guatemalan born and raised, and have been working in this industry of leading, teaching, searching and learning across Guatemala for the past 15 years. I consider it one of the biggest pleasures of life to share perspectives, make friends, enjoy my favorite things and places with weary, young, and energetic explorers like yourselves. Although I have led a handful of Dragons summer programs, I never tire because your individuality makes every time something new and refreshing and each day brings us infinite opportunities to learn about life and ourselves.
Here on the Yak Board is a perfect spot for us to get to know each other before the course begins. In that light, I’ll share with you a few of the things that make me who I am and in no particular order…I love music, cooking and eating, friendship, seeing unknown lands, being a ‘big kid” (curious and open), I enjoy having deep conversations, photography, space, hot sauce, history, the outdoors, learning and many other things that make my days always interesting and fun. I adore my family. And I’m extra proud and grateful for my home, Guatemala. I asked my partner to describe me in one word and she said that I’m a ‘giant goofball mountain-man’. I certainly understand why she would say that… I enjoy playing and joking and doing silly faces, and specially now that I’m a dad, I can practice being a goofball with Kai, my son.
On a more personal note, I want to let you all know that I am proud of being a Dragons Instructor and I feel honored to be part of your experience. Being part of the Dragons community has given me new perspectives and many many friends. I love seeing the world through the eyes of exploration and openness. We will discover and re-discover things and places. And I can’t wait to embark on our adventure and share this beautiful country with all of you.
I can’t wait to get-to-know each of you, create memories and learn what makes you tick. It will be incredible to see how our lives evolve as a result of the new experiences we endure together.
I must take this chance to shout-out to, and thank, our i-team (instructor team) Este and Raquel for being so open and authentic, it is truly because of them, all of you, our collective energy, and the Guatemalan communities where we’ll tread ground, that this summer will be an intensely beautiful chapter in life.
We are here and happy to answer any questions or doubts you may have. We’re also super eager to learn about you, your ideas and passions. Please feel free to use the Yak Board for any and all of this over the coming weeks!
Until next time, paz y mucho amor!
Oh yeah, the photo is of the Cathedral of Antigua Guatemala, my home town.
