Siem Reap – Angkor Wat

Today we visited the wonders of Angkor Wat on our first full day in Siem Reap. The day began at the largest temple with Yut guiding us through the 12th century temple. It was amazing to see how Angkor Wat has changed through major historical events over the years. For example, all the heads of Buddha were cut off by the Khmer Rouge Regime. Amazingly, these temples have stood strong for over 800 years. Our whole group was in awe the entire time. The second temple was full of over grown vegetation and huge trees. Through environment changes, the temple continues to stand strong. Lastly, the third temple was full of over 140 defined faces. Each temple was unique to itself. I believe that these temples represent what Cambodia is all about. Even through tough times, Cambodia has continued to stand strong and not crumble to the ground. These temples give me hope that Cambodia will continue to fight for peace for many, many years to come. The day ended with a trip to the night market where we all purchased elephants pants and ice cream, and a foot massage :-).

Thank you, Cambodia for the amazing day!
