Comparing Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

Having stayed in both the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, and the most touristy city, Siem Reap, a stark contrast was observed. Phnom Penh bustled with tuck tucks and people, creating a terrifying crossing-the-street experience. However in Siem Reap, the roads, having been developed later and mainly for touristic reasons, we calm and maintained. This difference makes Siem Reap tranquil, but personally I thought Siem Reap was covered in elaborate hotel chains and tourist attractions. On the other hand, Phnom Penh was touristy as well, by since the city was established before the major wave of tourism, there were more local shops and restaurants. Overall, both cities surpassed my expectations and offered different perspectives on modern day Cambodia.
